What is Mission Africa?Mission Africa is a project designed to shine a light of hope in communities riddled with poverty and despair, through educational projects, spiritual support, and healthcare. How was Mission Africa started?Victor Jakpor, a member of Mountain View Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona, is originally from Sapele, Nigeria. Victor came to the United States to attend college, and twenty years later, he heard the call to visit his homeland and make a difference. Fellow members of Mountain View, and other area churches, joined together to support the mission. What has been done so far?
What is the first Mission Africa project? The first project is to provide water to the elementary school in Sapele. Currently, 1,000 children attend the school with no water and no restroom facilities. Is there an opportunity for volunteers to travel to Nigeria?Unlike other missions, Mission Africa sees itself as an organization providing financial and spiritual support to the members of Sapele so they can rebuild their community. Sending volunteers is not only costly, but somewhat risky due to the political climate. More importantly, it is the goal of Mission Africa to help rebuild Sapele not only by rebuilding buildings, but by rebuilding the hope of each resident. How can I get more information about Mission Africa? For the history of Mission Africa, Victor’s story, clips from the documentary, and profiles on Sapele residents click here to watch a short video. For information on how you can purchase and show the DVD to other groups, please email info@missionafrica.org. |
